I’ve picked this first quilt to share as a way to illustrate the ways in which I’m growing in terms of my skill as a quilter. This was a quilt I made for my little nephew last August. I picked it because I LOVE the center panel with the animal alphabet and I chose other fabrics from the line to make two outer borders and the binding. The backing was a super soft minky matching the green in the prints. I dressed it up by putting the label info on the front of the quilt with embroidery in the first and last squares of the panel. The squiggly quilting in the border was my first attempt at free motion quilting.
This was meant to be a super quick and easy baby shower gift, which is what I seem to be able to tackle best with the small slivers of sewing time I find here and there. Looking at this quilt now (7 months after I made it) I think about how the projects I’m currently working on have evolved beyond putting borders on a panel. I am now tackling more ambitious projects (and also still knocking out some quick and easy ones) and learning more from each one. I am mostly self-taught and am grateful to all the bloggers out there who share tutorials with gals like me who are too busy to take a quilting class! As I get this blog set-up in the coming weeks I will grow my blog roll to share some of my favorite sources for inspiration and some tutorials of my own.
