A Tale of Two Runners

It started with 1 charm pack... and two mothers needing gifts. This weekend I enjoyed weekend sewing with the LA Modern Quilt Guild and finally finished this WIP I shared with you last month.

The first runner is for my mother-in-law who celebrated her birthday today! She is always admiring the things I sew and I wanted to make her something special for her birthday. We had her over for dinner tonight, along with my father-in-law, my husband's two brothers, my sister-in-law, my two nephews. All told we were 10 of us at this loooong table. Tonight was also a sort of pre-Thanksgiving dinner with my husband's family since in a couple of days we will be heading to Houston to spend the holiday with my family.

Both two runners are made with Sandy Gervais' "Grand Finale" by Moda. I used one charm pack to make both runners and still had some charms left over! I also used shot cotton and Kaufman chambray. I  machine embroidered the squares using variegated thread. I love these redwork leaves from Anita Goodesign!

The second runner is for my mom. She has specifically asked me for a runner in these fall colors to fit the decor of her new home.  I'm packing this with me to take to Houston for her as a Thanksgiving present. I'm really looking forward to our time with her there; not only do I need a vacation - but nothing really beats my mom's Thanksgiving dinners!

I used more yardage from "Grand Finale" for the backing and binding. Here they both are, ready to be gifted away!

I've been so inspired by the Celebrate Color contest that Rachel has going on and am happy to finally enter myself! I'm also linking up to Sew Modern Monday - click over to see what everyone else has made!
