Habitat challenge

This past summer Jay McCarroll, winner of Project Runway season 1, issued a challenge to the Modern Quilt Guild to create something with his latest fabric line for Free Spirit, Habitat. This past week the LA chapter had it's Habitat show n tell and was honored to have Jay McCarroll himself join us via skype to view our creations.

We were each given 8 fat eighths of fabric and were restricted to only add more fabric from Habitat or from solids. I made two pillows with my fabric adding only solids from my stash. I enjoyed working on curved piecing with these blocks.

To add some texture to the pillows I created some rouching  in the circles and densely quilted outside and in the center diamond.

It was very neat to have Jay at our guild meeting via skype! He talked about his design process and showed us some images of his next upcoming fabric line! He also got to see and chat with each of us whom had created something for this challenge. It was a little intimidating to wonder what he might say about what I made, but he was very kind and funny!
